The Sun-Herald also understands NSW wicketkeeper Brad Haddin, secretly placed on standby last week as cover for Ricky Ponting, has become Australia's World Cup bolter as a potential specialist batsman.

The squad will be named early this week. Selectors have shed concerns about Haddin's ability to hold his own as a fielder if he plays in the same side as entrenched gloveman Adam Gilchrist.

Victorian Brad Hodge is yet to cement his place at No.4 and there is an increasing belief in the corridors of power that Haddin is among the best six batsmen in the country.

Na that's bull****. He's a quality batsman and great understudy for Gilchrist and deserves a place in the World Cup team as a reserve keeper and another batting option if stocks are low. However he certainly wouldn't be ahead of Hodge or Watson as a batsman alone.

Haddin has actually been fielding and bowling in grade cricket of late i believe rather then keeping.

Personally i think Darren Lehmann should be recalled. 65 and 3/4 from 4.2 overs. Hes the best of Watson, Hogg and White all rolled into one.

For what it's worth, i think Luke Ronchi should be the heir apparent to Adam Gilchrist. Very very good batsman, and just as aggressive.

One domestic innings, no matter how good, should not get you into the international side.

Bracken's a gun behind the stumps, I hear. hard to keep to your own bowling though.

Do you really think it was on the backing of one domestic innings? He averages 40.25 at first class level. As i said, not ready yet, will be in another year or two.
