Well, I certainly had a chastening experience when I wrote McGrath off before the Ashes series  . However, there are fresh murmurings around about his place in the ODI team. I think it's a bit harsh to have a chop at his bowling at this stage, however his fielding is woeful at the moment.

You've got to be kidding me. He's the leading wicket taker in the tournament.

Clark takes an amazing haul in a FIRST CLASS MATCH and yet is a world cup prospect?

I ****ing hate the media.

An 8 wicket haul in a 4-dayer justifies nothing for the world cup. As was proven a long while ago, Clark is a good test bowler, and a very good one at that, but he isn't a great one day bowler at all.

How did he lose the game exactly? HIs final over was no worse than Lee's last one, and his two death overs before that were actually pretty good, and he took a wicket. He also made more runs than Hodge, incidentally.

One of the reasons I like Watson as a player is because people bash him for absolutely no reason like this. He's not in the side for no reason, he's in the side because of consistent performance. The last time Watson bowled 5 or more overs in an ODI and failed to take a wicket was June 2005. He's played 20 games since then. His bowling average in 2006 was 19.16. The one time in his career he's got a decent run in the top order he scored three fifties in eight innings and now he's back at 7 again. He's not world class yet or anything, but if you don't think he's deserving of his place in the squad you need to pretend he's Victorian or something.
Theres one thing to like a player, theres another thing to show blind devotion to him despite the obvious fact that he was rubbish in the last game. My question is if Watson is batting out of position in the Australian side, which almost every one of his ardent supporters seem to believe, then why on earth is he playing? There isnt much doubt in my mind that his batting is supposed his strong suit, and despite what you'd like to believe, everyone knows that his bowling averages in the last year and a half have flattered him and hes by and large been complete rubbish other than the DLF cup in Malaysia. On his batting, there is no evidence to suggest that hes even good enough to be playing for Australia given that his ODI record even while batting up the order is hardly brilliant and his List A batting record of 33 is easily the worst in the Australian side.

I batted around 8-10 overs and still got a blob.

FFS. Team had a collapso, tried to hold on as long as possible, couldn't buy a run for my life. Embarassing stuff. It hurt more when the opposition legitimately complimented me for sticking it out and holding on after I was dismissed (bowled :(). I was the last wicket to fall. Almost patronising even though they meant well.

Needless to say we did crap, played the top team, all out for 151, have them 2/69. Going to be tough next week if we have any chance.
Do you bowl Jono? We restricted our opposition to 174/8 in their 40 overs. Never enough on a very hard and true pitch. We knocked them off with about 14 overs to spare and only 3 wickets down. My fellow opener who had scored 3 ducks in a row previously scored 80*.

White is arguably one of the worst spin bowlers ive seen in all my years of watching. To pick him ahead of Brad Hogg as the sole spinner would be bordering on lunacy IMO
Personally i would have him in for Watson is whomever is picked is going to bat that low.

Hogg can bowl 10 nearly every match for mine, thats not a problem. On the SCG White could well bowl 3 or 4 overs and Clarke 6 or 7. Not ideal but if they insist on keeping Watson out of the top order i really dont think his batting warrants his spot.

Yeah, I'm in the team as a leg spinner. Last time we played this team I got 3-9, and was on a hattrick but my best mate dropped the hattrick ball. :( Was a soda too.

Should get a bowl next week.

You guys played a one-dayer obviously, 40 overs each? Fair effort to chase 174 in 26 overs.

We were about 115/2 at drinks (20 overs) and really dark, ominous clouds were approaching so we decided the plan would be to go the tonk and try and secure the win ASAP, in case we got rained off. We did it easily and the rain never arrived as it happens, but it showed what can be achieved by batting positively.
