Wow what a suprise result. Either Australia are playing poorly for the last few games or England may actually be finding some ODI form for like the first time since?? A long time

Fiery is perfectly justified in saying that he does not deserve a saloon passage to the key number four position, particularly at such a crucial juncture in the cricketing calendar.
;) Thanks howardj. There are plenty of Australian cricketers I rate extremely highly. There are two I don't rate, Watson and White. There are some I just don't like, e.g Lee and Hogg, but that probably has nothing to do with their cricketing ability just their personality, Hogg just annoys the crap out of me for some reason. Guys like Ponting, Hussey, Gilchrist, Hayden and McGrath are simply all-time greats of the game (I think you can already say that about Hussey, he's an absolutely phenomenal player). I come out and criticise a couple and get chased out of town by a crowd with pitch-forks. Whoever said Watson > batsman than Hodge has to be kidding. I don't rate the guy, live with it Prince et al.

Very happy that England (Collingwood) performed so well and got a good victory.

However, I think this game showed the gulf between the teams. England had to be on top of their game and in order to win a close game this had to be combined with an average Australian performance.

It doesnt really matter what England do, If Aus play decent or better cricket they will win the game.

Still today was fun though
"this game showed the gulf between the teams". How can you say that when England won? That's being way too over-gracious in winning. England deserved the victory fair and square. Just enjoy it. Phone an Australian friend...if you don't have any (and that's understandable), go out, find one and subject them to an abusive, gloating rant, or just give them the bird if you feel like it. Live a little :)

Can I jump in with my first post here?

Why bag Watto on one innings where he was knocking it around sensibly until no.10 got in
Watsons batting was n othing short of pathetic in the situation. Watson should have been going after his shots. Watson not going after his shots meant that Hoggy had too - something that he is not as good at as pushing it round picking up lots of singles. On this occasion that got him out. Watson then failed to send Lee back and he was out too. Watson then went on to fail himself.

If they insist on playing Watson he has to bat no lower then number 4.

I think it's best for the team if he doesn't play at all. Very, very average cricketer and obviously a baby. How's this:

From The Sun -

"THE Aussies have been spooked by the legend of 700-year-old ghosts at their Durham hotel.
All-rounder Shane Watson was so rattled he left his room and slept on team-mate Brett Lee’s floor."

  , how pathetic is that?

Yeah because that says so much about his cricketing abilities.

I'm so sick of hearing about that - sure it was funny but it has complete jack to do with how good a cricketer he is.

Get Watson out of that bloody squad. Picked him on NOTHING rather than that he was previously in the team. He played one game, great let's rush him back into the side. Loses the game for us. Great!!

Yes, I distinctly remember Watson dropping Bell at 33-3.

And when he failed to make that Collingwood run out - such dire cricket...

How did he lose the game exactly? HIs final over was no worse than Lee's last one, and his two death overs before that were actually pretty good, and he took a wicket. He also made more runs than Hodge, incidentally.

One of the reasons I like Watson as a player is because people bash him for absolutely no reason like this. He's not in the side for no reason, he's in the side because of consistent performance. The last time Watson bowled 5 or more overs in an ODI and failed to take a wicket was June 2005. He's played 20 games since then. His bowling average in 2006 was 19.16. The one time in his career he's got a decent run in the top order he scored three fifties in eight innings and now he's back at 7 again. He's not world class yet or anything, but if you don't think he's deserving of his place in the squad you need to pretend he's Victorian or something.
