Why are you comparing Shane Watson with Hayden, Hodge and Kallis ffs? The guy's a bowling allrounder if you ask me
Which is precisely why we didn't ask you. You wouldn't have seen much of his batting, because you've only seen him at the international level where he has largely batted in situations which he is completely unsuited to.

ironically the team will be better balanced, but obviously poorer in the Chappell-Hadlee trophy, with Gilly and Ponting out. Watson opens, Haddin bats 6 or 7.

Why doesn't Bell open for England in ODIs?

A decent batsman is capable of adapting his game to suit any situation, bat anywhere in the order, in any conditions. The fact that he can't do that proves that he's not a good batsman to me

Haha, such tripe from someone who says things like "Oram's average is low because he usually comes in too late to get set."

Batsmen aren't expected to be supreme over-rulers of adaptability and utility. They have different strengths and weakness and are more applicable to certain roles.

Watson is a decent bat imo, just seems to be messed around a lot.

I don't really see him making a go of ODI cricket if he can only bat in the top 4 though..

It's not "tripe" Prince, it's quite a valid argument. If you're going to be dismissive and rude then I wont bother discussing it with you. What's tripe about the sentence you quoted from me "A decent batsman is capable of adapting his game to suit any situation, bat anywhere in the order, in any conditions". Can anyone else tell me why that's "tripe"? I'm not even sure that's an actual quote of mine regarding Oram either.

Wtf? Have you seen his domestic record? If he's a bowling all-rounder, Vettori is a batting all-rounder.

In reality, Watson's bowling until last year was not up to international standard at all, and he was kept in the side on potential alone. His batting has always been very good though.

He could have fooled me

It's "tripe" considering its quite hypocritical given your comments on Oram - of which you gave his batting position as an excuse for his low average. It's not an exact quote, that's why I included the word like - you've said things similar.

As for what else is "tripe" about it - well, read the rest of my above post.

Except if you put someone like Hayden at 7, he'd struggle. Even Symonds struggles batting below 5 or 6. Some batsmen need time to play themselves in and work best over a lengthy innings, while others are more explosive. In test cricket, a good batsman should be able to bat in any of the middle order positions, but ODI cricket is a different game and there's a much bigger range of specialisation.

It obviously takes a different skillset to make 30 off 20 balls at the death than it does to come in at 3 or 4 and make a century.

Goodnight Prince. I'd rather not talk to someone who considers my opinions "tripe". Especially someone who's probably about 10-15 years younger and has poor manners. You're sounding like a bit of a know-all little ponce tbh.

wow that was extremely frustrating to watch...

getting 30 runs in the last 10 overs
letting em go after being 3/15
dropped catches, bad fielding at other times too

just generally a horrific match... but of course not all is coz Aus played badly.. in fact most is coz England played with great heart... well deserved win

bring on sunday
