Just nominate the current Indian side minus Kaif and Y. Singh. Pakistan are pretty atrocious as well, Inzy can catch as can Laxman but there is a couple more facets to fielding then just taking an odd blinder at slip.

Considering they are specialist slip fielders, they do a very good job. They dont' drop many, so they are good fielders.

If i moved Gilchrist from his specialist position to say, cover...he'd struggle too.

Tendulkar is a very very good fielder. Highly under rated. Infact, most of the team is decent nowadays. Dravid, sehwag etc. are all decent... Sure, not super star fielders, but solid.

He's played more than one series in his career.

You probably wouldn't have seen it, but Michael Clarke's fielding in his debut test series (against India in '04) was absolutely horrible, at least in terms of catching. He put a number down fielding in a few different positions, and sitters as well as tough ones. He's obviously a world class fielder though, it was just an aberration (unless you're Richard, who thinks he's crap), and there's not too many guys in the point area who are better at stopping the ball, and probably nobody who is better at throwing down the stumps.

Pietersen's not the best fielder in the world or anything, but he's certainly very much above average. The best in the England side after Collingwood, at least in terms of versatility.

Incidentally, the inclusion of McGrath is hilarious. One of the best fast bowlers ever in the field. He's not quite as good these days, but he's still by no means bad, and that's at 36 or so.

If you drop 6 out of 6 in an Ashes series then it takes more than 2 years before you can be considered as having "safe hands" imo

He is an excellent fielder, very strong arm, quick across the outfield, safe pair of hands and throws himself around when he needs to. He had a horror run in the 2005 Ashes but apart from that he's been very good.

Pietersen is an inconsistent fielder, but not an especially bad one. Certainly nowhere in the league of:

Chris Tremlett
Munaf Patel

Whoever said Vaughan, Tendulkar and Bevan are poor fielders is smoking crack.

Panesar is a terrible athlete but not too ineffective a fielder: he goes for it, gets behind the ball. He's not a bad catcher these days either.

From what I've seen of Tait, he has been terrible, but that's probably just nerves. He needs to play 5+ games before we can gauge his real ability.

Walsh was pretty terrible, from what I remember. His fielding was almost as bad as his batting.

i think inzi has improved his fielding after Jonty Rhodes's fielding session in Pakistan. but guys like farhat, razzaq and kunaria are the worst. i am surprised to see the inculsion of Michal beven i thought he was a farily good fielder. Y. singh and Kaif the best indian Fielders ever.

Last thing i hope to see on a cricketing field is inzy leaping in the air ala jonty to take a catch, or slide on the turf. I would get my eyes tested if see inzy doing all this. Franklin and fulton working pretty hard to make sure that they become all time greats of this thread.
