I have to agree with Ian Chappell, what was the point in Clarke trying to throw the stumps down at Taylor's end when there is no chance of him (Taylor) being run out?

Because he bowled rubbish on Friday?
I don't think that has anything to do with it, personally. It's a rotation policy and a dead rubber. Bracken has to be rested somewhere. And I doubt his performance in the last game or the nature of this wicket led the the decision to rest him for this one. It was probably made well in advance.

Geez, that would have been a screamer.

edit: Didn't matter. Ball kept low a bit, but it was a pretty bad shot. New Zealand won't make 300 now.

Taylor had to go for it really. Now its Oram-time
He has a little time to play himself in before an onslaught

Hasn't he already been rested before?

Really poor effort by Taylor. 20 off 30 balls considering at what stage he was batting was a dreadful bit of batting. Might have single handedly cost us 300.

I'm not unhappy with Taylor getting out tbh. Styris + Oram can hit well, but neither has the running ability of Mccullum.

A bit harsh but yeah he might need to try and curb that compulsion he has to slog across the line.

Yeah, but it's not just a one-off rest, it's a rotation policy. None of the seamers have played more than a couple of games in succession at any point in the series, and Bracken is a certainty for the finals and played the last match, so he got a rest today. Same with McGrath.

Clark by contrast isn't a certainty in the finals, he's competing with Johnson, and Lee is but didn't play in the last game.

But it helps to have McCullum there to get 2s to put the big hitter back on strike.

300 looking a bit of a tough ask now. Although i still think 280-90 would be a good score
