So I haven't really studied the mathematics of this tournament...what do you have to do to get a bonus point/any chance of it happening? :D

This game is O, V, E, R, girlfriend, unless Symmo somehow comes back out.

Had to happen eventually, I guess, and this was their last chance. Had the Poms gone down in this one, I'd have been curious as to when the last time an English side left an Aussie tour without a single victory over the home team (at least, from when one dayers were a regular part of the itinerary). Actually I'm curious anyway, does anybody know this?

Good innings from Hayden tonight, reckon that given the uncertainty of Watson's position (and stability) he's done enough to go to the WC. That'll shut down the naysayers, never doubted him to be honest. :)

Joyce MOTM for mine, even if he was dropped early. Fine innings, and he helped England finally post a competitive total batting first, after all the frustration cricket fans have had with the games being for all intents and purposes over before Australia batted. And the fact that he's Irish eases the pain of finally losing to this mob just a bit, as well.

England's NRR will be -0.738836972 if they dismiess Australia for 200. New Zealand is +0.069 and will improve when they beat Australia. Meaning England would have to beat New Zealand with a bonus point to get through to the finals.

If New Zealand looses then Tuesday's game is effectively a semi-final.

You have to restrict the opposition to 80% of your score, which is under 233 in this case. So yes, there's a chance.

Shouldn't matter much though, provided Australia win on sunday. If New Zealand beat Australia on sunday with a bonus point and England don't get the bonus point here, England are out. If New Zealand win without a bonus point, England will need a bonus point in either this game or the next and a good NRR, or a bonus point in both. If New Zealand lose to Australia, all England need to do is win the next match, and bonus points are irrelevant. However, they become relevant again along with NRR if the final match is a tie or a no result.

Make sense? :p

Fairly close, except he had particular hatred for Symonds and spent the entirity of his innings howling abuse (racial and otherwise) at him. Also, to be fair, he didn't spill beer on me.
Don't you hate guys like that? You just want to say to them "what country are you in?...ya moron!" (Actually, I have said that). I bet he's spent all his adult life bludging the dole in Bondi.

Thanks for that - I'd hoped someone would know which umpire it was.:)
tbf Tufnell had probably given him a fair bit of lip before then.

If you get the chance, have a read of Tufnells' account of that tour, which is a hoot.

I actually found him kind of funny because his girlfriend was utterly mortified by his behaviour and kept telling him to shut up. Plus New Zealand lost, so he got increasingly angry as the game went on and tried to start up an "aussie aussie aussie, cheat cheat cheat" chant. The Symonds stuff was a bit over the top though.

Haha, and I bet his girlfriend dumped him after the game and he still can't understand why

It does actually, LOL.

I hate the idea of settling the final based on previous matches, and always have done. Should just do what happened in the NWS 05 and share the trophy.

It's game like this that get people scratching their chins about match-fixing..."mmm, who would we rather play in the final?, let's rest Punter".

Definition of complacency anyone?

Sorry if i offended anyone, or was a bit too harsh. Just trying to say that arrogance is something that nobody should strive for. Maybe its just misunderstanding of the actually word itself.
Yeah, many people seem to have an understanding that arrogance is simply acting with confidence, rather than acting like an ass. And the idea that somebody would earn the right to act like an ass is pretty stupid, if people take the time to think about it.
