Battle of the Legends

Round of 64, Battle 29

We shall define a legend of cricket on the basis of the following criteria:

- An influential figure who made a significant impact on the way the game is played on the field.
- An influential figure who remained involved in and made significant contributions to the game off the field.
- A hero or an icon who served as an inspiration for others (cricketers as well as the general public) and will be remembered for years to come.
- Remember that a legend is defined not merely by cricket records but also by aura, impact and legacy.

Battle 29

Wilfred Rhodes (all-rounder, most prolific FC bowler ever)

versus

Tony Greig (all-rounder, "grovel", later commentator, "mail-order bride")

This battle will close after 12 hours (or earlier if it's a no contest IMO) with a lead of at least 5. Otherwise, it will close after 24 hours.

State Vice-Captain
I must adamit I'm biased because I don't like Greig (the '70s version of Jade Goody:@ ) but Rhodes is the greatest FC wicket-taker of all-time and went from No 11 to sharing in England's highest Ashes opening stand so that's reason enough for voting for him anyway. PS - I voted for Miller in the last battle - don't damn all us Brits for being biased!

Hammond wuz robbed:@

Sneaky crim had to go and die recently, just to win the battle:p

Rhodes btw, which may be considered a partisan blighty vote against the SAfrican born, and Australian-living idjit.

Round of 64, Battle 30

We shall define a legend of cricket on the basis of the following criteria:

- An influential figure who made a significant impact on the way the game is played on the field.
- An influential figure who remained involved in and made significant contributions to the game off the field.
- A hero or an icon who served as an inspiration for others (cricketers as well as the general public) and will be remembered for years to come.
- Remember that a legend is defined not merely by cricket records but also by aura, impact and legacy.

Battle 30

Curtly Ambrose (fast bowler, historic spell of 7 for 1 against Australia)

versus

Andy Flower (wicketkeeper-batsman, all-time leading run scorer for Zimbabwe)

This battle will close after 12 hours (or earlier if it's a no contest IMO) with a lead of at least 5. Otherwise, it will close after 24 hours.

The Wheel is Forever
Ambrose the better player, Flower the bigger legend.

An influential figure who remained involved in and made significant contributions to the game off the field.

A hero or an icon who served as an inspiration for others (cricketers as well as the general public) and will be remembered for years to come.

Those who vote for Ambrose are ignoring the criteria. If Flower's stand against Zimbabwe at the expense of his career is not an inspiration, then I don't know what is.

I was going to reply to that but I'll wait until you're sure you've finished editing it.
Most people voting for Flower are doing so because he had a great record in a poor side.

Ambrose.

Just on this 'what is a legend', how did McGrath beat Laker?

One performed a legendary bowling performance that will never be broken, both were great bowlers
