he isn't consistent enough with his batting in ODIs to command a spot in the top 6. He obviously can bat at ODI level - but so can Rajin Saleh - just not consistently enough.

As I said already, it was a top innings. But it doesn't dispell anything I've said really. It showed his ability to bat well and score quickly against quality fast bowling - but we all knew he could do that occassionally. He needs to do it more consistently and stop following it up with 20 innings in a row of scores below 15.

I'd love to see him improve his consistency and become a genuine allrounder at ODI level but he isn't there yet. I never said he shouldn't be in the team or that he was ****. And he still hasn't proven himself to be consistent... talk to me in 6 months time.
That opinion starting to sway yet Prince?

Good stuff by the New Zealanders, nice platform set by Taylor and Vincent (who wasn’t bowled) and considering how inept are boys have been thus far 318 should be more than enough (wicket also seems to have slowed down since the weekend).

Thought Flintoff bowled rather well and 10 overs for 66 was not a particularly accurate reflection on how well he bowled, when you think that Liam Plunkett picked up three wickets and all he was doing was bowling (wicket taking) leg stump half volleys.

You gotta feel for England. NZ added 100 runs in the last 10 overs, almost 50 of those in just the last 3. I feel sorry for Tremlett and Plunkett: that's a cruel introduction to international cricket. Ball slipping through the fingers, ineffective dives...it's almost like India had taken over the fielding.

I would've said around the 50-over mark that England looked in ok touch and could have a chance in on the chase, but now the game looks all but over. Without Pietersen, England are gonna need a miracle.
His been around since 2005 and got worse hidings than this. Should be used to it by now.

Yeah Clapo, I couldn't resist a little gloat :p...(immature I know) . Anyway, he's playing the Cairns role with the bat better than the man himself atm. Hope his bowling can improve on his effort the other night though. :)

Why the hell england don't play sajid mahmood, he is one of their better odi bowlers. Lol i think fletcher might be saving him for the finals.

That sure was a quick six months.

There's no doubting his talent to bat in general - his performances and consistency in one day games is where my problem lies. How is that hard to comprehend? It's obvious he's in good form right now - doesn't change much IMO.

Mahmood is a rubbish one day bowler. Doesn't even have much potential in that form IMO. Tremlett and, to a lesser extent, Plunkett, have the ability to perform in ODIs with some refinement and experience but I'd be surpised if Mahmood ever becomes a good ODI player.
