TBH, it's a fair assessment that they'd fancy themselves more to beat England at this stage than Australia, and they've reflected this in their selections. They've rested Bond from this game in the hope of unleashing him later on.

Yeah, they obviously know they have a much better chance against England and their selection policy has backed this up. However, the only reason they wish to beat England is so they can get into the finals against Australia, which would give them further opportunities to defeat Australia. I think they'd get more out of beating Australia once but not making the finals than beating England and getting dominated by Australia in the finals.

And that could be a dangerous approach to have from New zealand . I say this because as ponting said england are wounded at the moment and are at rock-bottom, and they could just become a bit more dangerous in that scenario(to salvage some pride). But it looks hardly unlikely at the moment.

Oram's bowling today was utter-rubbish, but to be honest on a pitch like the WACA it was basically to be expected. Oram bowls short of length and gets bounce which makes him an easy target, especially for Hayden who obviously picked Oram out as the bowler to take plenty of runs from. Oram is coming back from injury though, and still needs to do a lot of work to get rid of those wide balls and hopefully get back to the form he had about 3 seasons back. He does have the potential.
The Black Caps' fielding today was disappointing - if Vettori had taken that catch or Taylor taken the clean up catch afterwards it could have been a much different story. Under pressure the fielding looks a bit ordinary, which could be because of a lack of confidence and the sapping heat.

For 1 over he did. Took 18 off Bracken. Apart from that he was still looking pretty scratchy
