He should have been caught three times, but still an excellent display of hitting by Boucher, turning the match around.

Well wouldn't have expected Sami to bring the carnage to an end, but good for him. Boucher has done a tremendous job of giving SA valuable runs and a lead.

Interestingly poised match this one - anybody's game, and it'd be redundant to say the next session is absolutely crucial, obviously.

Just watching the fill-in replay from the B&H 2nd final of '83 - wow, I remember that match pretty well. At the time I was 12 and was bitterly disappointed that Hookesy (who was my favorite player) didn't hit a 6, in spite of a quick fire 40. Then along came Chris Cairns' old man, when the game was done and dusted, with his shoulderless bat...

Things looking very hairy for Pakistan with the dismissal of Younis, 3 down for 20 or so ahead.

What's the minimum needed here to challenge South Africa in the last innings? I'd think 170 or more would have to present a fair ask - seems quite a distance away now though.

Hall did it in the first innings by picking up the big wicket of Inzi, and now he picks up yet another monster of a wicket in Yousef.

Nice going

Is this really a minefield or what?
I saw bits and pieces of Boucher batting and it looked perfect, so what is the real deal here. Is it bad batting or extremely good bowling?

Depends on your definition of "minefield". It's a very helpful pitch for the bowlers, and tricky to bat on. Obviously though, Boucher was set and facing the old ball, where it's always going to be easier. The key is surviving the early period, like any innings on a dodgy wicket.

There's no question it's a very bowler friendly pitch, though. One of the toughest in recent years.

150 is possibly defendable on this pitch, if Pakistan bowl well. So another 40 or 50 and it's still alive. It's worth remembering that India only set Australia 107 to win in Mumbai in '04 and won the match, and there's other examples around too.

Obviously anything under 200 and SA are favourites, but it's not over just yet.

Yeah, they're not going too bad here, I spoke too soon. I'd forgotten about SAF's difficulties cleaning up the tail of late (Nazir and Sami have put on nearly 50 now). If they can eke out a 170 lead or more (and currently it's around 140 or so) they could actually be in a somewhat decent position.
