but the problem is no batter in the country is batting well enough to replace haydos.Gilly was looking in great touch just hard luck the way he got out.
Jaques?
Hayden is shot at one day level, he cant even hit it off the square. Averaged 18 this series at a strike rate of probably under 40. Time to go.

katich is too defensive a player at top order for ozi's they need haydos to fire otherwise watson is the only practical choice.why is ian healy so concerned about haydos pink bat grip i think he has ran out of sensible things to talk about.

Tony can't remember when Hayden's had a strike-rate like this. Why do they persist with the idea that Hayden is somehow an aggressive ODI batsman in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary?

Jaques? Watson? Clarke? Rogers? Sure, they might not be painfully obvious fill-ins at the moment for varying reasons, but they'll value their spot a whole lot more in the long-term.

Hayden's play is that of a man fighting to get selected for his next game. He can count his blessings that the free wicket probably won't affect the bigger picture. I'm not worried that he's putting such a hefty price on his own wicket, but when this comes at the expense of his much more free-scoring partner (especially when it was Gilly's call and he was running to the danger end) it sets me off no end.

hayden:7(30) so he has got stuck. As for jacques he was scoring all the runs in the world last season but when it really mattered now he has hit rock bottom batting form wise.Freddie is whacked again on his fingers last thingh england want is fred getting on the injury list.

Monty just had Ponting in the slips and Collingwood dropped him. Tough chance though but Monty deserved a wicket, was bowling well.

yeah i would also like to see haydos playing his shots and getting out rather than scratch around like this even if he makes a fifty like this i doesn't help his or his team's confidence.

I am not harsh on haydos i want him to score big runs but not like this, all his life he has dominated bowling attacks but since his 138 at oval v/s england in ashes 05 which was a very watchfull knock(a bit too watchfull by his standards), he has become a defensive batsman who is playing to save his neck rather than play his natural game.

Maybe....just maybe...he is playing for the team rather than personal goals?

His innings so far today has done no harm to our chances of winning, has it?

More than Jaques or Katich can currently.
I wouldn't put Katich within a 100 miles of the team.

Again, what does he bring to the team? His fielding is overrated, he doesn't bowl, he doesn't make runs, or if he does he makes them in pissy chases like these (compare his first innings stats to his 2nd innings stats), and when he does make runs he rarely makes them quick enough. And he's 35 years old, bad form or not, he won't be there long, so he's only taking match experience that could be used to establish a player with a longer future for the team. The only justification for keeping him there is if he was necessary for a world cup defense, and he most assuredly isn't.

Personally, I would rather Watson do the opening again.

But from the crap I get in other forums, I gather Watson is not liked in here either?

Apparently if you talk about a replacement for haydos, cosgrove is my choice in the longer run coz out of jacques, watson (he really struggles against quality spin), rogers he is the best player of spin bowling australia will be better served if they select an opener who could bat through the innings coz its not always a good thing to make mike hussey do all the hard work.

If he had left 50 consecutive balls that would have not harmed our chances in the slightest, admittedly.

Now, if we were chasing 270 against a rabid 2005 English attack, I'd be skeptical. It's a shame the team's results invaribly cover up player deficiencies like this, and affect selection policies accordingly.

TBBH, I'm over-reacting here. But the statistics and what I'm seeing on TV surely don't lie. There are better ODI opening options in this sunburnt country. The fact that he's run out Gilchrist - who had the most potential out of anybody to push this game beyond the cusp of unwatchable - has compelled me to post like this.

Cosgrove is hardly in any kind of form, even from the perspective of this die hard Redback supporter!

Cosgrove is in worse form than Hayden, theres no way hes even near the Australian team.
