Finally haydos agrees that his odi form is a concern!!

I really think haydos is under the pump now but i really don't want to see him scratch and graft around for runs he has not been his intimidating self which has blunted his effectiveness a lot is it a mental block or has age just caught up with him.I think he should dominate the bowlers coz thats the he knows to play COMEON MATT THE BAT!!

George worried not really happy sitting out.

hoggy has finally broken his silence and questioned his exclusion from the side he said"i feel i am bowling the best i have bowled my whole life but i still can't get a game to prove it" i think hoggy has every right to be upset coz he is really being treated poorly since he is australia's no.1 spinner in odi cricket and ponting also agrees to that.If george can add some big shots in his armour than he is the ultimate no.7 coz he handle the bat.

i didn't say hogg is in the gary sobers mould but he is no bunny either with the bat his shortcomings are inability to hit the ball long which is very important for a lower order bat,but he can play the supporting role of rotating the strike, like in the last two games white got out playing ambitious shots rather than staying with huss and supporting him if it was hogg he would have rotated strike over with huss playing the major role.

The pitch was doing plenty. I'm not really a Jaques fan to be honest, but he it was a controlled innings on a pitch that was holding up a bit and offering something for Hilfenhaus, Wright and Drew. I was quite impressed.

i didn't see his knock but i saw most of the tassie innings, the pitch was doing abit, Bailey made it look pretty easy though.

How many teams does it have to be said that Hogg is not competing with White for a place? White is the side based on his batting form... Hogg is not an ODI class #7, especially given the fact that the Australian bowling has been great recently and the batting has been a bit dodgy. Dropping a batsman for Hogg would just be stupid really.

Hogg is competiting with the Clark and Johnson for that last bowler spot. Not White, who is occupying a batting spot.

Than is white good enough at no.7

Mate, when white is in the side as a pure batsman he than needs to bat like one rather than throw his wicket like he did in the last 2 games, and we have got a far better player for no.7 in david hussey who is widely experienced and at the same time a clean striker of the cricket ball, white was given the nod ahead of other batsmen purely coz of his all round capabilites which surely haven't been on show at the international level.

FFS you cant seriously expect a player to dominate every game can you? The ball Anderson got him with last Friday was a peach. Swung late when it appeared to be going down leg, one of the best balls a touring team has produced this summer. Be patient he's played what 4 games and your already calling for him to be dropped?. He has been the most inform one day batsmen this summer and thats why he was chosen.

Rumour going (via RadioSport) that Astle may be doing a Martyn.

Nothing confirmed yet, of course.

Pretty strong rumour going round that Nathan Astle has retired and is on a plane home...
Disappointing last few innings by a really good ODI batsman if that's the case.

Hope we're going to fly someone over to replace him so McCullum doesn't have to go up to open again.

Bloody hell. Despite him being badly out of form I thought (and hoped) he'd retire after the World Cup.
Lets not jump the gun.

Though he has looked like he would rather not be there in his last few innings - maybe he has just had enough, and realised he is unable to energise himself again for top level cricket. I also wonder if the Bracewell regime had something to do with it....?

Anyway, should know better in a few hours.

Yeah, he didn't seem to be quite himself in his last few innings (going back to Sri Lanka series, I guess. or further back to Champions Trophy. He looked as though he was in form, just before that).

Only he knows when it's time to go. Regardless of whether he has or not, IMO, he was our best ODI batsman ever.

And I do say was even though we don't know if he has retired or not, because he certainly isn't what he was.

But we have to give him some credit - he was dropped for that South Africa tour yet forced his way back into the side. IIRC he was called up as cover and smacked a 90-odd and his next innings might've been a century. Not sure.
