Why is tait out of convention?

Guys on dead flat tracks tait is one guy who is lethal with his reverse swinging yorkers and slinging bouncers is he still out of convention due to his throwing in odi's . And what about mitch he has been called once in a generation bowler by lille so he is definite potential and he is a rare left arm bowler who has such pace like akram but he needs to swing the ball but he will learn with time like akram who also learned to swing after some time

The prevailing thought I kept having during yesterday's game was that NZ just didn't deserve to win. The sloppy way they went about their fielding was abysmal, let alone the terrible drops. Even with wanting Australia to win I found myself constantly annoyed by the Kiwis' poor efforts.

Ultimately though, they should be a little bolstered that they could run things that close. Really, I thought McMillan should have won the MOTM rather than Clarke, because it clearly just wouldn't have been any semblance of a contest but for his contribution, even if he was out early in his innings. (And not out when he was given.) Did Rauf give both those calls? He really is a shockingly bad for a top-level umpire.

Incidentally, McMillan does have a perfectly round ass. Almost in an attractive way. In fact, when I shifted in my seat watching him bound athletically round the boundary to field, I felt like something might have moved, just a little.

I was surprised. He gave a sterling performance at Melbourne in 2005. Was one of the most on-the-ball I'd seen for a while, especially after the Ashes comedy.

Can't remember much of him in the home South African series, but he's been pretty terrible for a while. Living proof of the fact that an Anglo umpire making bad calls to the detriment of subcontinental sides can't in of itself be an example of racial bias when the subcontinental umpire at the other end is making twice as many.

Every game i've seen him stand in he's made at least 1 botch up, and usually a quite obvious one. The fact that someone as incompetant as he is allowed to stand in a game, yet Darryl Hair is not is farcical imo.

Its not his bad decisions that are the worst part. He'll do stupid stuff like do stretches at square leg when everyone else is ready to play, take out the light meter whilst the bowler is running in, and grab his hat at exactly the point when the bowler is releasing the ball (seen that twice now), with Graeme Smith complaining, telling him to stay still.

I honestly think he's incompetent.

I'm actually happy to see the back of Hair, but it wouldn't worry me at all if Rauf was sacked (or at least demoted) tomorrow. They've dropped other umps from the elite panel before - Asoka, Tiffin and Orchard all got tossed around halfway through last year (though I think Asoka made his way back somehow). The main problem of course is that they never really have enough of them.

Johnson does swing the ball, more than most bowlers in the country. Possibly everyone in top flight cricket aside from Bracken and Hilfenhaus. The reason he hasn't been swinging it in ODIs is because he's been bowling with the older ball, and conditions haven't exactly suited. He was swinging around corners in Malaysia last year, and I'm sure if he's given the new ball at any point in this series he'll do a bit with it.

Anyway, Tait isn't being picked in ODIs because he's considered too expensive to share a team with Lee, and also because he's been injured on and off when the spots have been available. The fact is there's already five seamers who are doing well and rotating in and out of the team, then you've got Hogg, and the next seamer in line is Hilfenhaus. There's just no room for Tait at the moment. Once McGrath retires he can try and break into the test team, presumably competing with Johnson and Hilfenhaus, or maybe Lee if he loses form, and then he might play ODIs after that, but right now he's about the 8th specialist bowler in line. We're spoilt for choice with talented seamers at the moment, and Tait will have to wait. I'm sure if he keeps bowling well for SA he'll get a run.

S.clark is a stack of crap in ODI'S

How many of u feel that stuey clark is dead meat for batsmen in odi's,he was major part in NZ chasing 332 and RSA chasing 434 against the Aussies, even yesterday he was given wickets as gifts by the kiwis but was also whopped for some big sixes . The main reason he is so bad in odi's coz of the lack of variations like good slower balls and is really too predictable for odi's all these things which pigeon does so beautifully .

Haha, so he`s crap except for when he gets wickets which are lucky though so he`s still crap? Give him a break.

Pretty sure Ervine has been playing grade cricket in WA. He played a few matches for them, but injury and bad form have seen him dropped/rested I think.

There's no practical reason at all why Clark can't be a good ODI bowler. Doesn't quite have the variations that McGrath has developed over the years, but he's not exactly tremendously experienced at internaitonal level in the format. He's a good, consistent bowler and he's really a lot harder to hit off his line than a lot of people seem to realise. Bowling a predictable length doesn't necessarily make you easy to hit.

He's got a bit of improvement to go in the shorter form of the game, but I think he'll have a successful career, particularly if he's given the new ball in the future, which he might be if he becomes the test spearhead. McGrath only has a few months left in ODIs after all, so Clark will have a chance to show his worth.

Looking forward to hopefully a close game which I hope NZ can win today. I think NZ is the better ODI nation. Every team in this series has to step up their batting performances because IMO not one team has batted really decently yet. Scores of 155, 206 and 219 etc. are not good enough, well maybe they are considering the chasing of these small totals.

Interesting reports in the paper in the last few days about the decision to drop McCullum back down the order. On the one hand we've got Fleming saying it was a decision made because McCullum was more comfortable down the order, then you've got Bracewell saying that McCullum offered to drop back down last week, but then there's also the fact that McCullum said he was desperate to stay in the opening position (link).

In other news, Bracewell's being a stubborn git just for a change (Miffed coach plays questions with dead bat). A few extracts for your viewing pleasure:

nz Herald said:
Reporter: Are the players nervous or lacking in confidence?

Bracewell: Not at all.

Reporter: There's been talk of rebellion in the ranks. Are the players happy?

Bracewell: You'd have to ask the players that.

Reporter: So you have no concerns about the mood of the players?

Bracewell: You'd have to ask them that.

Reporter: But do you detect anything in the camp?

Bracewell: You'd have to ask the players that.

Reporter: How would you describe the team's morale?

Bracewell: I don't think there's anything wrong with the morale but you'd have to ask the players that.

Reporter: But how do you think the players are taking it?

Bracewell: No, I'd rather you ask the players.

Reporter: Do you feel you've got the faith and trust of your team?

Bracewell: I'm not going to go the Duncan Fletcher way. You'd have to ask the players. It's not for me to second-guess the players.
nz Herald said:
Reporter: What do you hope Jacob Oram will bring into this team?

Bracewell: He's an all-rounder, so all-round skills.

Reporter: Do you expect Kyle Mills to play [against England]?

Bracewell: That's still being decided and when the team comes out, you'll know.

Reporter: Are you treating this [today's] game as a must-win contest?

Bracewell: Not at all. We're treating it as an international game of cricket.

Thats a terrible interview. He should know his players inside out and be able to comment in general terms on their behalf. IT sounds like he hasnt talked to them for awhile. His terrible decisions should lead to his sacking after the world cup. I dont think he has any faith in his players or maybe he has too much faith in some of the poorer players. I still cant believe they are still selecting franklin after years of ordinariness in the shortened form as well as the Marshall twins. The preperation for the world cup was looking good a couple years back but it seems as if too many experimentations have been left to right near the beginning of the world cup and I sense a bit of panic within the team. You could also say that about other international teams at the moment as well.
