and shane warnes continued steroid abuse since 2003 helped him get all those wicketsYeah true, because Asif's steroid use helped him have that 74 run partnership with Inzy. Not crap SA bowling or anything.

You realise I was being sarcastic in my post right?and shane warnes continued steroid abuse since 2003 helped him get all those wickets
Good god, are you SS or something? To a vast majority of people in Pakistan, they would rather lose this Test series 3-0 and win the World Cup than the other way around. Hell, I'd bet most people think the upcoming one-day series against SA is more important than the current Test series, and I'd tend to agree with them. No points for guessing how the Pakistan selectors feel about this matter either.Who cares about the World Cup? This is a test match we're talking about for cying out loud.
I can understand the whole "building for the world cup" thing in ODIs as it is really the only meaningful tournament the format holds, but having the selectoors select a test team differently because the World Cup is around the corner really makes me cringe.
The only thing that should be considered when selecting a test match side is to win the test match.
Yes, yes he is.Because Gul is the best bowler of all time? Seriously...
Yes, yes he is.
I very much doubt that. You ask Inzy whether he'd prefer an away test series victory against South Africa or a ODI series victory in a series which will be forgotten in 5 days after the series is completed, he'd definitely take the test series win. So would Woolmer, and so would the selectors.Good god, are you SS or something? Umm, maybe not you and not many other educated cricket fans either, but yes millions of other less-knowledgeable/street fans do.
You're kidding.....right? Who the hell remembers an ODI series outside the WC for more than 30 seconds after it ends?
The World Cup really has nothing to do with the test series. If Akmal is so mentally fragile that dropping him would hurt his confidence beyond repair, he shouldn't be in either side regardless.Good god, are you SS or something? Dropping Akmal in the middle of the series will probably accomplish next to nothing, and could hurt our chances of winning the last Test as well. In addition, dropping him will definitely hurt his confidence. I'd say its probably best to wait till after the World Cup, and if Akmal's performance doesn't improve there'd be no reason not to bring in someone else before the next Test series. In any case, I think Akmal can provide enough with the bat that his place for the World Cup is assured. In that form, his struggles with the gloves might not be so costly.
Really? You're telling me that people remember non-WC matches years afterward? How many ODI series do you remember from the nineties? Cause I remember a LOT of test series.Umm, maybe not you and not many other educated cricket fans either, but yes millions of other un-educated/street fans do.
No they don't, they have very little importance in the whole scheme of things.Umm, maybe not you and not many other educated cricket fans either, but yes millions of other less-educated/street fans do.
So you pick the test team based on what a bunch of fly-by-night casual cricket "fans" find more important then?Umm, maybe not you and not many other educated cricket fans either, but yes millions of other less-knowledgeable/street fans do.
I'm not sure if they are useless, but they certainly are crap. But of course that is a subjective opinion on my enjoyment of the game.Mind you, I'm hardly in SS's camp with his stupidity that ODIs are crap and useless,
I don't remember a lot of things from the nineties btw, I was under 9-10.Really? You're telling me that people remember non-WC matches years afterward? How many ODI series do you remember from the nineties? Cause I remember a LOT of test series.
So then why would you select based on what they want since they won't care or remember anyway?I don't remember a lot of things from the nineties btw, I was under 9-10.
Anyways, the majority of these "less-knowledgeable fans" I am talking about probably don't remember a lot of the Test series either along with ODIs.
Then who cares what they think?I don't remember a lot of things from the nineties btw, I was under 9-10.

Does it matter now that India beat Pakistan 4-1 earlier this year? It means absolutely crap all now, and I bet you don't remember most of the matches. However it means a lot that they lost that test series.
Mind you, I'm hardly in SS's camp with his stupidity that ODIs are crap and useless, I'm just rebutting against a silly statement that a ODI series is more important than a possible historic test series.
No I never considered an ODI series to be more important than a Test series, never. And I am hardly justifying what shortpitched said, all I am saying is there are lots and lots of people out there that care about ODIs. And yes I do remember ODI matches and series in the past few years, along with Tests. And I am sure a lot of other people do too.So you pick the test team based on what a bunch of fly-by-night casual cricket "fans" find more important then?
What has the game come to? This is a joke.
