Ever invented a shot?

I played a reverse defensive once in the nets, against a decent spinner. Was shaping to play the reverse sweep but without switching my feet round, until the ball dipped a bit and pitched far too short to play the shot. It was also fairly straight and I wasn't balanced enough to either switch back to a regular sweep or play a reverse pull, so I just straightened up the bat and played a forward defensive with my hands switched round.
I was in a similar situation once and attempted to do the same. I overbalanced and was stumped whilst on my knees about 6 inches out of my crease.

I came forward to hit a ball once as I anticipated I could hit it without the ball bouncing. The ball came faster than I had anticipated. Thus I first thought of playing a defence. The ball was higher than I anticipated as well and thought a late cut would be possible and thus late cut the ball (before the ball had bounced) in the last moment. It meant the ball went for a four around the third man area. I am not sure that was a new shot but certainly a weird combination of shots.

I've managed to get out and get a lot of my runs with the Fisherman's Prod.

Basically just putting the bat outside off stump and hoping for the best. I model my batting on Murali (front foot to square leg, looking at the clouds).

the cover drive....with a twist...instead of going through cover it goes through/over/around the slips.

in all games ive played ive never been caught in the slips, and this particular cover drive contributed 40 in my highest score of 72. i've only played one successful cover drive in about 100 plus games opening the batting but countless times over/through the slips while playing it.

I tried the Vermeulen "up-and-over" to a fast bowler - 85+mph - twice before. The first time the ball flew nearly for 6. The second time the ball flew upward off my bat, hit my helmet and lobbed up for the wicketkeeper. It was the second most embarrassing dismissal of my career. In my defence, we needed >15 runs per over for the last 2 overs.
You're thinking of Doug Marillier not Vermeulen. I'm sure Vermeulen would appreciate it if you didn't mistake him for a psychopathic arsonist

Indeed. Suprised it took everyone (including myself) so long to realize that error.

PS - Vermeulen knew what he was doing...

I invented a shot that, noe matter what I do, is guranteed to get me out, and I always play it wihtin the first two overs of being in, hence my HS of 8

Is that the shot where you get in the position to pull but rather than pull you sort of whirl the bat upwards over your head, almsot swat like, over the keepers head to the boundary?

More or less. It's sort of an up-and-over paddle shot, with a bit more timing than a mere deflection.

I've done that once. It was a full toss to my head and I sort of crouched slightly and turned a bit as I whacked it over the keepers head to the boundary. Fortunately it was a no-ball as well (for the height) so me hitting the stumps as the bat came down didn't matter.

Some guy on my team tried to do that shot once to a bowler of decent pace,. He got an edge on it, and deflected it to where it hurts. Needless to say, I will never play that shot.
