Much as I love the idea that simply playing cricket anywhere, anyhow in Australia makes you better than playing top level English cricket it just ain't so. Grade cricket is not the top tier in Australia, or anywhere.
And how do you propose he play top level cricket in Australia then? Grade cricket in Australia is a heck of a lot better than most cricket.

Aside from all the borderline-flame-throwing, if Geraint Jones ever plays for England again we'll know we're in deep ****.

Unless, of course, he makes near-unthinkable improvements.

if he starts holding the bat in a decent way, why not ?
his keeping is up to the standerd most of the time...his batting isn't, far from even.

If everyone just got off his back he'd be a lot better. Leave the poor guy alone!

Seeing as the other option is playing no cricket as England is currently about 8 celsius, torrentially wet and with 8 hours of daylight, I think that's a rather facile suggestion...

Eyes not spreadsheets
Playing grade cricket in QLD isn't a career promoting thing for an English player it's just a lifestyle choice, a declaration of where he really considers home.
Funny then that a number of county players go over to Australia to play Grade Cricket every English winter isn't it?

Am I misunderstanding something? Is grade cricket and County Cricket the same thing in England. If so what do you call your local club cricket?

Well educate me then, I want less facileness in my life. Living in Australia would be expensive for a Papua New Guinean born and Australian raised Welshman now resident in England. His family raised him in Toowoomba which is a hell of a long way from Brisbane so there'll be no drifting back to the parents house for him. I'll be stuffed if I can see how it makes sense financially, or to develop his skills.

Because it's not like he makes money from playing cricket or anything. 8-)

You're really grabbing at straws now...

OK, to make it nice and simple...

International cricket (for the team picked by the ECB-appointed selectors)
First-Class (county First-XI) cricket (and for some inexplicable reason UCCEs are allowed to play this First-Class stuff against the counties in a few games per season)
County Second-XI & Minor County (IMO this should be called "Second-Class" and did used to be) cricket
Club First-XI cricket (eg Exeter Cricket Club First XI)
Club Second-XI cricket (eg Exeter Cricket Club Second XI)
Club Third-XI cricket (eg Jeff Stanyer's XI - formerly known as Exeter Cricket Club Third XI)
Club Fou... :lamo:

You get the picture?

Pretty much as I thought. And yet a number of Geraint boosters/England supporters here seem to confuse club and County cricket when looking at Jones' situation in Australia. He is not playing top level cricket now he's back home.

He's in Australia to play cricket. He can't play top level cricket anywhere right now and he can't play any cricket in England, so why is it so hard to believe that he's in Australia merely to play cricket?

No one is even pretending that. When arguing, it helps if you respond to what other people say, rather than what you want them to have said.
