Jayawardene not doing much to dispel the claims that his nothing more than a Columbo king and average/to good test or ODI cricketer away from home.

Mason and Adams are just too hitable. Can you imagine them against Aus on good Aus batting pitches. It will be carnage.

Gillespie proving he has a bit of potential and should be given as much experience as possible before the world cup.

In other news, James Marshall scored 152no in a domestic game today. Not saying he should be selected, but It seems to happen that a player gets given a few games for NZ and then goes back to domestic cricket and imediately dominates. I guess everything just seems easier and slower.

152 is a good knock in any 1st class one-dayer. I thought he looked quite good for his 50 in Queenstown and he's gone and done exactly what a player should do after being dropped. Good on him

A blazing action-packed start followed by a mini-collapse then very subdued but sensible batting. These guys are both in now and could be about to flick the switch

Gillespie needs to be in the side I think. He really bowled well today, just a few boundaries in his last over to make his figures look worse.

Two quick bowlers, not fast but quick, along with Vettori, And whoever else

Yep, Gillespie bowled really well and looks to have the goods. I like the steely, determined, aggressive look he has on his face when he goes about his work...it reminds me of my avatar

Im getting a bit optimistic about the world cup for NZ. Not this team as it is, but the two players I think we can keep, from this series,Taylor and Gillespie, will add so much to the NZ side, I think we could have a real good shot at the WC. I hope McMillan can find some form, and perform better than he has in the past. And Styris can come into the middle order too.

a top four of

McCullum
Astle
Taylor
Fleming.

is pretty good compared to other teams,

A bowling attack with Bond and Vettori leading , with Gillespie, and the all rounders of Franklin and Oram, and Patel and Mills hanging around seems pretty good.

Some great bowling by Gillespie and Bond today. Mason seemed to start well but after getting tonked he didn't seem to be able to pull it back. Adams bowled fairly ordinary it seems, despite a wicket. Patel perhaps unlucky to go wicketless.

When injured/rotated players are back, they should replace Mason and Adams, giving us a fairly strong bowling line up.

Bond, Gillespie, Mills, Patel, Vettori & Oram.

Franklin just isn't ready for the role he's "destined" to take in ODI's (a fast bowling all-rounder - 'the next Cairns')
