I agree Papps deserves another chance, his 92* against SA was a great knock.

Oh god, what is this rubbish I've just been reading here? In particular this bit:

stuff.co.nz said:
Bracewell is pinning his hopes on Hamish Marshall or McMillan to take over McCullum's opening role in Australia, though in a different manner to the gloveman, but if they fail to come up to the mark then incredibly, McCullum might be on the way back down to No7.
Please no....

Haha. There is really nothing funnier than people that can't tell the difference between test performances and ODI performaces.

Stuart Clark - 25 wickets in 18 ODIs @ 33 (5.5 RPO)
= solid backup, if not a bit over-rated

Mitchell Johnson - 14 wickets in 10 ODIs @ 25.78 (5.15 RPO)
= gun start to ODI career
Stuart Clark's wicket to match ratio is only marginally less than Johnson's. I really don't see how Johnson's career thus far can be called gun whilst Stuart Clark is called over-rated.

Consider that Clark after his first 10 ODIs:

17 wickets @ 25.82
4.93 econ
It's his recent matches - most notably the DLF mauling by Lara and Gayle and the SA record chase - where he's taken a beating. He actually started his career as well, if not better than Mitchell Johnson.

Clearly Johnson is the one who's a tad over-rated.

I think Lou Vincent would've been a much better option than Marshall. They guy is unlucky.
Lou Vincent's last 10 ODI innings:

8
5
5
25
102
1
17
13
3
1

As blinding as that record is, I think it's pretty easy to see why the man averages 25.34 in his ODI career.
Not that Marshall has been any better:

7
43
2*
19
1
4
5
17
29
4

How is Vincent unlucky and Marshall just undeserving of another look-in then? AFAIC neither is particularly good.

Point is Marshall has only had three scores over 30 in his last 26 innings!. Vincent has had nine with three 50s and two hundreds. Agreed its still not great but I know which one i'd ather have!.

TBH why doesn't Bracewell bring back Chris Harris into the finishing role he is talking about? He still makes runs at domestic level doesn't he?

Interesting that Hopes missed the CB series squad. Hayden over Jaques is fairly predictable, but still a poor decision for mine. The rest of it is pretty straightforward, with White obviously being preferred over Hopes, which is the right decision.

Great to see Hilfenhaus getting a run, even if it's only in the 20/20. Shows he's in the mix, and ahead of Tait in the shorter form, though Tait is also carrying an injury.

What a terrible nickname, Hilfenhaus. Surely someone could have come up with something a bit more creative out of that. "Halfway Haus"??

Worst decision of the Summer to bring Haydos back to the ODI side imo. I hope he fails miserably so we can finally look towards the future.

Great to see Hilfenhaus get a gurnsey, albeit in a 20/20 match. Hopes was unlucky, but theres no doubting that White has been the better ODI player this season.

Mate, I don't think the next few months is about looking to the future. Rather, the selectors will just be hell bent on picking a combination to win the World Cup. But, even on that score, I agree with your conclusion that selecting Hayden was an error. Jacques or even promoting Clarke for mine.

Katich will never play for Australia again, and Watson; well he needs a new leg.
