How quick is Makhaya going at the moment, he seemed to be a lot down on pace in the first innings, in the 130kph mark.

Jaffer will be kicking himself here. He loves to play the big inning. He had not adjusted to that extra pace the new ball brought which caused his downfall when he decided to play the stroke. Had it been the old ball, I doubt if it would have caused him that much problem as he had been batting for so long. The key folly was his own judgement of adjustment to change of pace rather than the question of playing or leaving the ball.

How much, you guys think, would be an ideal total on this pitch for us? Also, time is a factor, when should we at latest declare by... or, in your opinions, should we look to bat the rest of tomorrow as well?

Declare when we have 550. We need 300 more, so bat out most of the day tomorrow.

I am not entirely convinced we'll get 550, but that should be the goal.

If we have 400 on the board by tea, we should declare. Time can go against us if we don't declare tomorrow and bat into the third day

Clearly India's day, despite what some of these foolish commentators may believe. Let's hope Tendulkar goes on for a big one tomorrow and gets off to a good start to 2007. As for declarations, we shouldn't even think about that right now. The game could change dramatically and IMO this pitch will get tougher to bat on. It is quite flat, but it is already turning considerably and reverse swing will likely come into play throughout the test. India should aim for 400 right now, then see what happens once we get there. Good to see that we're actually getting 90 overs of play in here, unlike in Durban.

Look to get over 450 asap, and remember if the ball is old and the pitch is flat, Sehwag can blaze his way back to form. Honestly.

But this match is going towards a draw...
