and how often he was able to do that?
Here are some examples for starters;

Brian Lara's greatest hits

In June 2003 Wisden Asia Cricket looked back at six of Brian Lara's best innings.Journalists who watched those great knocks relieved the moments.

For wholesome mastery, there's Tendulkar; for wizardry there's Warne; for technical virtuosity there's Dravid; and to bat for your life, there's Steve Waugh. But for light and song, for bliss and glory and for lifting the soul, who else but Brian Lara? Waugh can match Lara's ability to raise his game when the stakes are at the highest, but not his craft. When Waugh engages in combat, he digs a trench, summons his inner reserve and spills blood. In contrast, Lara pushes his game to the edge and unleashes his full repertoire of expansive strokes in the knowledge that the fate of the match could hang on one false stroke. Lara at his best restores cricket as a game of sublime skills and high art.

The centuries don't stack up in Lara's case - 20, against Tendulkar's 33 and Waugh's 30 - but if there was ever a case of parts being greater than the sum, there can't be a more compelling one. He has failed more often than most greats, but oscillating between godliness and impoverishment, he has sculpted some of the most alluring masterpieces of modern times..............

Consequently, Lara is the better batsman because he can dominate the bowling and win a Test match for his team in ways that Tendulkar can only dream about.

Here are some examples for starters;
Yeah, that inning of 153 certainly was something Sachin has never done. No one needs a list for point out that inning. Other than that there aren't many innings by which Lara won the match in a way that Tendulkar can dream about.

One example when Tendulkar dominated the bowling and won the match in a way which Lara could certainly do.

Hope this doesn't turn into a Sachin vs Brian thread. Surely we've got enough of those.

I do think that an interesting question has been posed, tbh. Not necessarily specific to Tendy/Lara, but a mate of mine loves debating **** so much that he would take whatever opinion is required at the time. Real-life trolling if you will. So it's not too much of a stretch to imagine people overstacking their opinion of a player/team/band/film to seem more balanced when arguing in favour of their actual favourite.

Probably does happen on here, actually. I'm serious.
Yeah that's me pretty much. I piss so many people off :laugh:
Essentially what I do is when people rubbish an viewpoint, I show reasons that the viewpoint is a fair enough one for someone to take up, even if I don't agree with it.

It usually turns into me against everyone else, which is awkward because I'm actually on the same side as them in that I disagree with the viewpoint at hand. I just try to create a fair argument as opposed to a one-sided one.

Interesting thread. I'm guilty of this, or at least of things similar to it, and I suspect many others are too whether consciously or not (I'm speaking in general terms and not specifically to Lara / Sachin).
I don't believe I do that (but if it happens unconsciously I wouldn't know).

I love some of my team's players. Dhoni for example. If you say **** about him, I will fight it out all day long (refer the couple of ongoing threads). It's a mix bag with Tendulkar, I criticize him for a few things that I genuinely believe in but defend him against lot of criticism. OTOH, I hate BCCI, IPL, Sreesanth and Kohli, and I say as much without any intention to please anyone. (even though Kohli has won me over with his batting, he is not the kind of guy I would want to hang out with). And when opposition gets a bad decision I hate it no matter what the match situation, so when I say it, I meant it. In short, I am awesome.

I would argue that if your friend is going to get upset just because you choose to have a different opinion to them, then that particular friend is not worth having in the first place.
But who then will reveal to me the secrets of the church of Sachin?

I don't know what's more annoying, the Cricsimmisms or your obsession with outing every one and more. Probably wouldn't happen so much if you didn't keep biting at every thread.

Fully expecting you to tell me to **** off back to Cricsim, but it takes two to ferTango.

I think that's enough for now. Whatever the purpose of this thread, it's no longer producing any legitimate discussion so I'm going to close it.
