Miller might not be a good enough bat for six in this team. Would prefer him in the other poll and to select a bat here.

Much better bat then his stats suggest, played some of the finest innings ever seen at Lords:)

By no means would he be a poor number 6 in any standard team. Just the raised standard of this one may put his position at 6 in jeopardy.

I know its quality but I just want that extra genuine batsman in the lineup against the post-packer boys.

Lillee
Trueman
Miller
Sobers
Laker

is more than enough for the attack.

Reckon Weekes might struggle as people will think they are voting for crap South Australian bowling all rounder.

i think a benaud, gupte, davidson, lindwall, or chandra is sorely missing. remember they will be bowling to hayden, gavaskar, richards, tendulkar, lara, gilchrist, imran and hadlee. cant really count on sobers as a full time bowler.

i feel pre packer xi has enough batting already with hutton, boycott, pollock, chappell, sobers, miller and knott.

8 batsman vs. 7 is what that post said to me.
i agree. but dont you want to bowl out those 8 batters. despite such a strong batting line up their bowling is very well sorted. in the other team, lillee, trueman and miller look like certainties. you will need two more full time bowlers and neither can have a a 34+ bowling avg and a 90+ SR.

Where did my post in this thread disappear to?

I said I kinda agreed with Athlai that six bowlers is overkill, and that an extra batsman would be preferable, but that I couldn't choose any of the options provides above Miller, so I was voting for Keith.

That's just more number crunching. Sober's overall career average and strike rate include being a spotty 17 year old and 35 year old with lumbago. For most of the 60's he was good enough to be a 4th seamer in this line-up.

i dont think so but wont laugh at someone else choosing him with confidence.

GS Sobers (WI) 1960-1969 49 89 13399 5232 162 6/73 8/80 32.29 2.34 82.7 6 0

good figures for a support bowler. the question is, is he good enough to complete the bowling line up that is likely to be lillee, trueman, miller and laker?

When I said most of the 60's I was referring to his prime years of 1961-68 when he took 125 wickets in 33 Tests at just under 28. Not that it matters anymore within the context of this poll as Miller has run away with it since earlier in the day.
