yeah, great stuff Sachin. I thought he was very lucky to have survived a couple of very close LBW shouts, one from Fernando and another from Murali, but then again what great innings doesn't have it's piece of luck? Anyways, I thought both Dravid and Laxman played really well as well, as the ball was moving around a bit in the first hour and had they gotten out early as well, India would have been in all sorts of trouble. As the commentators pointed out, Sachin having been in and out due to injury over the last year and a half, and with Ganguly in real bad form and Yuvraj and Dhoni not having much experience, it was imperative that Dravid and Laxman had atleast a decent partnership. Plus, it was great to see Dravid lead from the front and go out to open today. That allowed Laxman to bat at his favourite position as well and once again, he does well at no.3... But Gambhir has got to knuckle down now, he has been getting out early way too often since the RSA one day series.

He seems to have corrected, at least to an extent, his earlier problem of plonking his front foot across the stumps. But he still plays far too square at the start of his innings.

And its not as if he has been failing. Since his 24th hundred, he has scored
36,
94,
52 & 52,
41 & 16,
22
in the five test matches. It was just the last two innings, spread over 9 months (March and Dec 2005) that his batting in tests looked laboured. His real bad patch was before the 34th.

He still does it. Hiding the bat behind the left pad as he stretches to take the spinner on the pad. He was lucky to get the benefit of the doubt today in so doing.

Yeah it was a year between tons, but really not many test matches due to his injury and the Indian off-season/India not playing many tests.

I was talking about Gambhir. I think you mistook it to be about someone else, Sachin? Because Gambhir didn't face any spinners in his short innings today.
