West Indies limp to draw

The West Indies began the third and final day of their tour match against Victoria quite well, with Chanderpaul and Smith forming a solid stand that looked likely to carry them safely to lunch, before a flurry of wickets immediately before the interval destroyed any West Indian hope of batting out the day’s play.

The only blemish early in the day for the West Indies was the dismissal of Dwayne Smith for 40, ending a fruitful partnership with Chanderpaul for the 5th wicket. Dwayne Bravo then joined his captain and formed another solid stand, as the pair ground out a partnership over almost 20 overs. It was a double strike from Allan Wise that rocked the West Indies, as he removed Bravo and new batsman Ramdin in quick succession heading into the lunch break.

After lunch, Tino Best supported Chanderpaul with a 77 ball innings, but eventually it was the West Indian captain who fell to the tight bowling, for a well made half century.

When the West Indies were eventually dismissed shortly before tea, the teams agreed on a drawn game, and played a 20/20 match to entertain the crowd.
