Umpires named for Super Series

The umpires have been named to officiate in next month’s inaugural Super Series in Australia.

South Africa’s Rudi Koertzen, Pakistan’s Aleem Dar plus Darrell Hair and Simon Taufel of Australia have been chosen.

Despite a solid showing in three Ashes tests, New Zealand’s Billy Bowden was overlooked.

“The Super Series is a contest for the top players in the world so it is only fitting that the best-performing officials should be appointed to stand in the matches,” ICC chief executive Malcom Speed said.

Taufel and Koertzen will officiate in the six-day test between Australia and the Rest of the World starting in Sydney on October 14.

Sri Lanka’s Ranjan Madugalle will be match referee for the three one-day internationals in Melbourne and the test.

Umpire appointments:

First ODI, October 5, Melbourne: Simon Taufel, Aleem Dar, Rudi Koertzen (3rd umpire).

Second ODI, October 7, Melbourne: Koertzen, Darrell Hair, Dar (3rd umpire).

Third ODI, October 9, Melbourne: Hair, Dar, Taufel (3rd umpire).

Test, October 14-19, Sydney: Taufel, Koertzen, Hair (3rd umpire).
