Twenty20 World Cup A Step Closer

The International Cricket Council have announced that nine countries have expressed an interest in hosting an inaugural Twenty20 World Cup.

Malcolm Speed, the ICC chairman said in a statement that for the past 18 months Twenty20 cricket had been followed closely and that there is now strong interest from many parts of the cricketing world for a World Cup event.

A decision on whether an international Twenty20 World Cup will be introduced or not will be a made at an ICC board meeting in Dubai in March.

The countries that have impressed an interest in hosting the event if introduced are New Zealand, Australia, Bermuda, Malaysia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Thailand, United Arab Emirates and the West Indies.
