Tendulkar injured at practice

Sachin Tendulkar faces an injury scare ahead of India’s tour to Bangladesh, after spraining his right ankle on the first day of the conditioning camp in Kolkata.

The extent of the injury will become clear only on Thursday once ice treatment and therapy is complete. The team management, however, believes that Tendulkar should be fit by the time for the two Tests. He has been, anyway, rested for the three ODIs, and thus will have enough time to recover before the Tests.

Tendulkar twisted his ankle while playing a bouncer from S Sreenath during the afternoon session of practice at the Eden Gardens. He landed awkwardly, after losing his balance, and was immediately attended to by the team physio John Gloster.

The team’s administrative manager, Surendra Bhave, said “He will review the situation in the morning and then we will know the extent of the injury and whether the batsman can take part in the camp tomorrow. But I think it is not that serious”.

Meanwhile, VVS Laxman missed the first practice day, owing to gastroenteritis. Whether or not he will recover by the time for the tour is unknown.

The Tests against Bangladesh start on May 18, before which India plays their neighbors in three ODIs on May 10, 12 and 15.
