Strauss wants to be captain

Andrew Strauss has told media that he would accept the England captaincy if he was offered it ahead of the Ashes series in Australia.

Strauss is currently captaining England with regular captain Michael Vaughan injured, and stand in captain Andrew Flintoff also out injured.

Strauss was asked by media in a news coverage at The Oval ahead of the fourth Test that “absolutely” I would accept the captaincy if I was offered it.

“I have enjoyed doing it and, if asked, it would be a massive honour.”

“But likewise if they (the England selectors) think Freddy is the man he will have my 100 percent support. Whatever happens, there are going to be 15 or 16 guys going to Australia with the sole intention of retaining that urn. That will happen regardless of who is captain.”

Media speculation suggests that the England selectors don’t want to overburden Flintoff with the captaincy when he returns to the England setup.
