Status quo for NZ selectors

New Zealand Cricket has today announced the re-appointment of Sir Richard Hadlee, Dion Nash and Glenn Turner as Black Caps selectors.

The selectors return to the national selection panel alongside Black Caps coach John Bracewell after a review process.

“Richard, Dion and Glenn have the skills and knowledge we want in our selection panel, and we are very happy to retain their services,” commented New Zealand Cricket CEO Justin Vaughan.

“We also wanted to ensure continuity in the selection process, to make sure we have a working panel at all times in the future. To that end, we have appointed the three selectors on staggered, fixed-term contracts.”

“In general, selectors will be offered two-year terms, with only two retiring in any one year to allow that continuity.”

“To commence the rotation, Richard and Dion have been offered one-year terms and Glenn a two-year deal, with John Bracewell already on a two-year term. Any of the selectors will be free to re-apply at the completion of their term.”

“John Wright, who joins New Zealand Cricket next week, was also considered,” added Vaughan.

“However, many key selection decisions need to be made in the short-term before John has had an opportunity to view many of the New Zealand player pool.”

“We felt he would be best to reacquaint himself with the players in New Zealand before any decision is made on whether he should be included on the panel.”
