Srinath appointed in the BRG
Harry Warwick |Javagal Srinath, former Indian fast bowler, has been named as one of the members of the Bowling Review Group who are to consider the appeal made by the Pakistani Cricket Board in respect to Shabbir Ahmed’s suspect bowling action.
Other members of the five-man team are Sir Oliver Popplewell, Roshan Mohanama, an ICC match referee, Dick French, a former international umpire, and Dr Marc Portus, a human resource specialist. Saleem Atlaf, the director of the PCB, will defend Shabbir Ahmed at the meeting, and Professor Bruce Elliot will give his own analysis of Shabbir Ahmed’s action.
Ahmed was reported two times in two days against England in the First Test at Multan, and was banned shortly after- the first player to receive this action in the last year.
Evidence taken will be in the form of video from the First Test, and from the individual Umpire’s reports from the match.
Shabbir Ahmed will hear through the PCB of the final decision of the appeal, which will be made by the Bowling Review group in Dubai on January 21st.
