Samuels flays Queensland
Sean Fuller |Marlon Samuels is not the best-known batsman in a lineup that includes Brian Lara, Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Chris Gayle, but on the third day of the West Indies tour match against Queensland he was the most impressive.
Samuels was there at the start of the day, and compiled 87 runs by lunch, with the score at 6/384. Mitchell Johnson bowled Brian Lara immediately after the break however, and it looked as if the West Indies may have been restricted to a modest total of close to 400. Samuels had other ideas however, and he proceeded to flay the bowling for a further three hours, adding partnerships of 72 with Tino Best and an incredible 156 with Daren Powell for the 9th wicket.
Samuels was finally the last man to be dismissed when he fell to Andrew Symonds for 257 off just 298 balls. By then he had struck 8 sixes and 34 boundaries, and carried the West Indies from a likely score of around 400 to a huge 612.
All Queensland bowlers suffered, but Michael Kasprowicz in particular failed to find much needed form, managing just the one wicket in his 20 overs.
