Rebels may make comeback
Alex Feeney |Four of Zimbabwe’s rebels – Heath Streak, Stuart Carlisle, Ray Price and Trevor Gripper – are likely to make a return for the national side after a 10-month exile.
Talks between the players and Zimbabwe cricket have reportedly progressed without fault. Another meeting is scheduled for Friday and if everything goes to plan, the 4 rebels could appear in upcoming A-team one-day series between Zimbabwe and Bangladesh as well as the impending Test series versus South Africa. Zimbabwe Cricket has refused to comment on the situation as of yet, claiming it would be premature to comment.
One of the main sources of the original conflict between players and administration, the criteria under which selectors are chosen, has supposedly been resolved by Zimbabwe Cricket. This means that current head of selectors, Max Ebrahim, would probably have to step down or be removed.
The four players join Andy Blignaut, who ended his own strike earlier this week, in rejoining the national ranks. Although all four rebels have had no first-class practice, they have been maintaining their fitness by playing club cricket and are confident about resuming national duties.
