Rain once again the winner
Paul Wood |It is becoming a familiar story this summer, with the rain once again being the deciding factor.
It was to be a charity match, and a celebration of 60 years of independence for two nations. Prince Charles was present and had earlier been introduced to both sides.
With the recently reprieved Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif restored in Pakistan’s starting line-up, and India’s confidence boosting series victory completed against South Africa last week, it was becoming an eagerly anticipated clash.
Persistent rain, however, had forced an inspection to take place at 2pm local time, and it was then the decision was made to call the game off, leaving the expected crowd of around 5,000 bitterly disappointed.
