Player security increased
Zac Gelman |After this week’s gas scare at the hotel where the Pakistan and South African cricket teams were staying, the ICC have ordered additional security to ensure player safety.
After being initially reported as a fire scare, police revealed that it was a tear gas canister that was set off in the hotel, reportedly connected to a dispute with hotel staff.
“There is additional security at the hotel and there is additional security wherever the players practice and at the venues. Where ever the players will go outside of the matches, they will be accompanied by security,” said Anand Daniel, head of the Trinidad and Tobago organizing committee.
South African coach Mickey Arthur said his side would not be shaken by the ordeal at all.
“It’s a bit of storm in a teacup and we just want to get out there and play some cricket,” he said.
“I’m not nervous about going back there, and I think the boys will just be only too happy to get back to the hotel and get their heads on their pillows after the session we’ve had today.”
