Pakistan “totally vindicated”

PCB Chairman Shahryar Khan is delighted with the disciplinary hearing’s outcome, describing his team as feeling “totally vindicated.”

Khan then went on to state that the decision had “removed the slur on the good name of our team and our country.” He also confirmed that the PCB’S stance on Darrell Hair had not changed, in that they still do not want him officiating in any of their games until his contract with the ICC runs out.

It was not all good news for Pakistan, however, with captain Inzamam-Ul-Haq being charged with bringing the game into disrepute, by effectively forfeiting a game for the first time in Test Cricket’s 129 year history.

As a result, he will have to serve a four match suspension, which rules him out for the entire Champions Trophy barring the final, should Pakistan get there.

Younis Khan is expected to lead the team in his absence. Although Inzamam has 24 hours in which to appeal, he is said to be unlikely to do so, given that the minimum suspension possible was imposed.
