NSW look to Waqar Younis
Arunava Das |New South Wales (NSW) are considering making an approach to former Pakistan pace bowler Waqar Younis to become their new bowling coach.
Waqar is contracted to Pakistan to the end of the World Cup, but NSW Chief Executive David Gilbert was interested in having him on board.
Gilbert told the Sydney Morning Herald “He was such an artist with his reverse-swing, and the outswing he would get with the new ball. We would be crazy not to be interested in someone with those kind of skills, particularly when he lives in Castle Hill [in Sydney].”
A vacancy appeared when New Zealand bound bowling coach Anthony Stuart left to become head coach for Wellington.
Former England international Graham Thorpe who is the current NSW batting coach has a good friendship with Waqar from their playing days at Surrey and that may well be integral to securing his services.
