Netherlands Too Good For Canada

The Netherlands cruised to a comfortable eight wicket
victory over Canada during their ICC World Cricket League match in Nairobi.

On winning the toss Canadian captain John Davison chose to bat. Davison raced to 16 including three boundaries, before falling to a catch by his opposite number Luuk van Troost from the bowling of Edgar Schiferli.

Disaster then struck when his opening partner Abdool Samad was dismissed without scoring (17-2).

Wicket Keeper Ashish Bagai righted the ship with some intelligent batting, eschewing the big shot, he kept the score board ticking over by deft placing and hard running between the wickets.

Unfortunatly Bagai was only supported by Ashif Mulla (37) and Sunil Dhaniram (29), with the rest of the Canadian team failing to make double figures.

Bagai was 7th out (197-7) for a gritty 74, which did not contain a single boundary, despite this his strike rate was still a respectable 64.91.

Collapsing from 197-5 to all out 200 was a disappointing effort from the Canadian side. The damage was caused by The South African duo, with, young speedster Ryan ten Doeschate claiming 4-31, and Billy Stelling who secured 3-41.

The Netherlands reply was almost clinical with opener Bas Zuiderent playing the sheet anchor role to perfection at the top of the order, and the rest of the top order looking for the big shot.

Darron Reekers provided some real entertainment by smashing 39 from just 29 balls faced. After his dismissal ten Doeschate and captain van Troost kept up the assault and the Netherlands cruised to an eight wicket victory.
