McGrath in doubt again
Sean Fuller |While one major issue with team selection appears solved after Tuesday’s practice session for the Australian team, another has arisen in its place.
Glenn McGrath complained of soreness in his right elbow after bowling in the nets, and has been declared a doubtful starter on Thursday in Nottingham. McGrath also missed the second test in Edgbaston after treading on a stray cricket ball, and Australia subsequently lost a test with a series on the line for the first time in over 18 months. He has yet to be ruled out however, and will continue to be monitored and tested until the last possible moment.
In the same net session, South Australian express quick Shaun Tait appears to have all but confirmed his selection to replace Jason Gillespie for the crucial test match. Tait bowled a fiery spell to Justin Langer in the nets while Australian Chairman of Selectors Trevor Hohns looked on, and staked his claim for a test debut in the process. He first yorked the Australian opener and bowled him, and then struck him in the groin with the next ball. Reports in the Australian media this morning suggest that the decision with Tait has now been made, with only McGrath’s fitness still concerning the Australian selectors.
