McGrath could play in 2009 Ashes

Australian bowling coach Troy Cooley has said there is a possibility that Glenn McGrath could have one more Ashes tour in him in 2009.

McGrath would be 40 years of age by then, but Colley says fast bowling is not just a young persons art anymore and with the fitness programs and the research that goes into fast bowling now, there is a chance he could do it.

Cooley who was the England bowling coach in 2005 left to take on the role with Australia earlier this year and told AAP: “If he (McGrath) keeps taking wickets and stays in form, there’s no reason (why not)”.

“He has that desire and that’s what keeps you going. There are really good programs in place for looking after your body now.

“So it will be whether injury stops him or whether he wants to stop, ” Cooley added.

McGrath has played 119 Tests and has taken 542 wickets at an average of 21.55 to put him third on the all-time wicket takers list behind Shane Warne and Muttiah Muralitharan.
