MacGill gets the nod for Brisbane

Shane Warne’s replacement as spinner in the Australian Test side has today been confirmed, with Stuart MacGill edging out Brad Hogg for the spot.

Much debate has taken place since the squad was announced over who should get the coveted spot in the first Test against Sri Lanka starting this week and with Brad Hogg being released from the squad to play with his domestic side, Western Australia, MacGill’s place in the side is all but assured.

Sri Lankan coach Trevor Bayliss, has spoken of the need to respect MacGill, saying treating him lightly may have dire consequences.

“We certainly can’t take him any more lightly than someone like Shane Warne, because if we do it could bite us on the bum,” Bayliss told the media today.
