Jayawardene hangs onto captaincy

Mahela Jayawardene has hung onto the Sri Lankan captaincy ahead of Marvan Atapattu for the Champions Trophy in October in India. Kumar Sangakkara has been named as vice captain.

Prasanna Jayawardene is the only player that was named in the recent cancelled tri-series squad in Sri Lanka to miss out on selection in the 14-man squad for the tournament.

Sri Lanka head to India on October 1st and are involved in a qualifying campaign against the West Indies, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe to decide who joins the main tournament that begins on October 15th.
