Inzamam Faces Lengthy Ban
George Roberts |The repercussions of Sunday’s farcical chain of events are already unfolding, after Inzamam-ul-Haq was charged with two breeches of the ICC Code of Conduct, and faces a ban of up to eight matches.
The initial offence of changing the condition of the ball carries a penalty of a fine of between 50 and 100 per cent of Inzamam’s match fee, and/or a ban of one Test or two One-Day Internationals. However the second charge, of bringing the game into disrepute, is a much more serious offence and could lead to the Pakistan captain being banned for four Tests or eight ODIs.
Inzamam’s case will be heard on Friday at an ICC Code of Conduct hearing in London, and will be conducted by ICC chief match referee Ranjan Madugalle. If he is found guilty, Pakistan will have 24 hours to lodge an appeal.
