India-Scotland washed out
Manan Shah |The game was called off after persistent showers made play impossible. There was enough time to get the toss in, and for a moment the spectators thought play would be possible with Scotland choosing to field first. However, the showers came back and never stopped thereafter, and the matched was called off at 8:30pm local time.
India had not played any warm-ups prior to this match having just concluded a long tour of England, and this was their chance to get some practice in before their big group game against Pakistan.
Scotland were looking to bounce back from their loss against Pakistan, but they did not get the chance and they will hope for a big Pakistan victory to push them through to the next round.
Currently, Pakistan have two points from their win against Scotland while Scotland and India have one point each from this match. With the draw today, Pakistan is assured of a spot in the next round. Here are the possible scenarios for India and Scotland:
For Scotland to get through:
- India lose to Pakistan and
- India have LOWER net run rate than Scotland
For India to get through:
- India win or
- India lose, but their net run rate is higher than Scotland or
- India draw or
- Match is abandoned and points are shared
Unfortunately for Scotland, their current Net Run Rate is -2.550, making their advancement to the Super Eights highly unlikely.
