India make the changes for Bangladesh

The Indian selectors have rested Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly for the upcoming tour of Bangladesh along with the dropping of Harbhajan Singh, Ajit Agarkar and Irfan Pathan.

Tendulkar and Ganguly have however been selected for the Test part of the tour.

It is understood that Chief selector Dilip Vengsarkar insisted that Tendulkar and Ganguly be rested on the back of the Indian Board ordering the selectors to pick a young team for the tour.

“We just want to give them a break, they are definitely not out of contention for the future,” Vengsarkar said.

This sees the inclusion of 21-year-old Bengal batsman Manoj Tewari, young leg spinner Piyush Chawla, left-arm seamer Rudra Pratap Singh and off spinner Ramesh Powar.

In a surprising note, Virender Sehwag has kept his spot in the one-day team, but has been dropped from the Test squad.

The tour starts with the one-day component with the first one-dayer being played in Dhaka on May 10th, followed by the second also in Dhaka on May 12th before the players move to Chittagong for the final one-day match on May 15th.

The Tests begin in Chittagong with the first on May 18th, followed by the second starting in Dhaka on May 25th.
