ICC To Review Ponting Bat

The MCC have asked the International Cricket Council to investigate the illegalness of Ricky Ponting’s bat, sighting that it gives the player an unfair advantage and could potentially damage the ball.

The debate all centres around a graphite strips placed along the back of the bat to aid in its durability, however the MCC feel the strip gives the Australian captain and unfair advantage and allows him to gain more power from his shots and therefore deteriorate the condition of the ball quicker.

The minor request from the MCC has blown up into a huge row between a number of parties with the manufacturer Kookaburra claiming that the carbon reinforces the strength of the bat and why would they want to increase the ware of their own cricket balls where Kookaburra supplies the balls to 8 out of 10 Test playing nations and all ODI balls.

While on the subject of Ponting’s bat the MCC is also unhappy with the bright fluorescent green Kookaburra stickers on the bat, called the Kahuna, which they feel goes against the spirit of the game’s laws.

The ICC will discuss the matter when it meets next month in Dubai for and review of bats within the game.
