Hoggard added to ODI squad
Neil Pickup |Matthew Hoggard has been added to England’s ODI squad for the upcoming seven-match series against India, following his performances in the Test series between the two nations and Steve Harmison’s withdrawal with a shin injury.
Yorkshireman Hoggard, who played the last of his 24 ODIs a little over a year ago, is his country’s leading wicket taker in the Test series but has struggled in the shorter form to date, often proving expensive due to his predictable length.
Nevertheless, England’s injury crisis has led to the 29-year-old being the best option available, with Kabir Ali and Sajid Mahmood already selected from the ‘A’ squad. The only other possibilities remaining were the out-of-form Alex Wharf, the raw and inexperienced Stuart Broad and the enigmatic Rikki Clarke.
