Hilfenhaus to replace Tait at WC
Zac Gelman |Australia have made a key change ahead of the inaugural Twenty20 World Cup next month, replacing the injured Shaun Tait with Tasmanian fast bowler Ben Hilfenhaus.
Tait, a key factor in Australia’s recent ODI World Cup success in the Caribbean with 23 wickets, has been unable to recover from surgery on his right elbow in time for the Twenty20 Cup.
His replacement, Hilfenhaus, is being touted as the next big thing in Australia after a stellar start to his career.
“This news is very disappointing for Shaun Tait after such a successful World Cup campaign and I know he was looking forward to being part of the first ICC World Twenty20,” said head selector Andrew Hilditch.
“The flip side is that this presents a great opportunity for a good young fast bowler who had such a good season last year.
“Ben is highly regarded and the chance to be part of an Australian touring squad will greatly assist his development.”
Tait is expected to be back in the frame for Australia’s limited over tour of India towards the end of September, according to Hilditch.
