Gough headed for Yorkshire

Former England fast bowler, Darren Gough is set to return to Yorkshire, with reports indicating that he may be handed the captaincy of the club. Gough has not yet signed on with incumbent club Essex for the new season, and Yorkshire are presently in talks with him.

Given the topsy-turvy affair which saw Chris Adams commit to Yorkshire, then sign on to remain at Sussex, Gough is the leading candidate for the captaincy in the upcoming season. The other strong candidate for the role was Anthony McGrath, but he recently decided to leave the club and abandon his contract. The move is being reviewed as to its legal viability.

Yorkshire also look to appoint a new coach, with the departure of David Byas. South African legend Allan Donald is believed to be the leading candidate for the position.

Should Gough accept the offer, he will lead a new-look Yorshire side, including the like of Younis Khan (with Matthew Elliott as cover during the World Cup), Jason Gillespie and Jacques Rudolph (Kolpak).
