Gavin Hamilton to retire
Liam Camps |Former England and Scotland international, Gavin Hamilton has announced that he will be retiring at the end of the current County season. Currently of Durham, Hamilton spent most of his 12-year career with Yorkshire.
The 31-year-old was once a promising allrounder, and played a Test match for England. He registered a pair and failed to take a wicket. Soon after, Hamilton caught the ‘yips’ with respect to his bowling as it became rather ineffective. He then shifted all his concentration to his batting.
In 1999 Hamilton represented Scotland at the World Cup. He played five One Day Internationals, scoring 217 runs (at an average of 54.25) and took 3 wickets (at 49.66 apiece).
For Durham over the last couple of seasons, Hamilton has not found much playing time, and perhaps this has contributed in part to his decision. It is a sad end for a good servant to the County game.
