Full strength beer ban

Police and the Melbourne Cricket Club have said full strength beer has been banned from public bars within the Melbourne Cricket Ground for the Boxing Day Test.

The reason for this MCC spokesman Trevor Dohnt said is to stop drunks ruining Shane Warne’s home town farewell and to help keep over 100,000 fans inside the stadium under control.

Light or medium strength beer will be available while MCC members in the exclusive members’ bars are excused from the ban.

“Experience shows that if we cut back on full-strength alcohol in public areas, it makes a huge difference,” Victoria Police’s Superintendent Mick Williams said.
